Hi, I’m Maddi. I’m a freelance editor and book coach. I’m passionate about helping fiction authors create the stories of their dreams.
Stories are incredibly important. They accompany us through tough times, help us make sense of the world around us, and inspire us to act and grow. But creating a story and navigating publication can be challenging. With 10+ years as an educator and mentor, I’m committed to demystifying the essentials of story craft and working with you to bring your vision to life.
My journey: From a very early age, I knew I wanted to write and edit. I wrote short stories and poetry and was the founding editor in chief of an award-winning literary magazine in high school. completed a Master’s and PhD in ecology, during which I learned to manage long term writing projects, . When I’m not editing, you’ll find me working on my own fantasy novels, birdwatching, painting, baking, or reading.
About Earthrise
Earthrise Editing Services takes inspiration for its name from Earthrise, the photo of Earth rising over the moon taken during the Apollo 8 mission. Earthrise inspired people around the world to think about collective responsibility and what it means to be human. The world’s attention on the recent Artemis 2 mission photographing their own version of Earthrise shows just how much we crave moments of amazement, inspiration, and connection.
I believe that great stories can have a similar impact. Earthrise Editing Services aims to help authors craft stories that similarly evoke a sense of awe, empathy, and a shift in perspective.
Genre
I work with fiction authors across a variety of genres. I especially enjoy speculative fiction, fantasy, science fiction, romantasy, romance, action, & thriller. Adult, NA, YA.
I’m not a good fit for non-fiction, memoir, poetry, erotica, or stories with graphic depictions of torture or nonconsensual sexual content.
